Rules for the ARENA nail competitions for Nailympia London 2024

These competitions take place at ExCel London on Sunday 13 & Monday 14 October 2024

Gel Polish – 45-minutes

TASK

  1. This competition is done on natural nails only - duration 45-minutes for both hands-on models.
  2. The model is to come with manicured nails, prepare the nails at home/hotel.
  3. Nails ready for gel polish must be enhanced and coated with any type of gel polish product.
  4. No design element is required. Just a picture-perfect flawless set of nails.

BOTH HANDS ON MODEL

  1. Right hand is to be created in a solid red color on the natural nail plate.
  2. Left hand is to be finished in a traditional French manicure style on the natural nail plate.

SCORE SHEET CONTENT

  1. FORM & SHAPE need to be consistent & uniform, oval, square or squoval. Free edge should be no longer than 4 mm.
  2. PRODUCT APPLICATION is clean & even, with no product on the skin, no streaks, or pits of bubbles.
  3. FINISHED SURFACE of the product is smooth and shiny.
  4. THE OVERALL LOOK of the gel polish on both hands is applied thin & natural looking. It does not appear thick & artificial. It appears to be a perfect hand – as if painted in lacquer.
  5. SMILE LINES on the left hand are sharp, even, fit to the nailbed & form. The endpoints are ending in the lateral sidewall to a sharp point on both sides of the nail, with no product on the skin, no streaks, or pits of bubbles.
  6. NAILBEDS are evenly colored on the left hand with cover or transparent and a white free edge on the right hand with red gel polish full cover.

 

ALLOWED

  1. Any gel polish in a bottle/pot is allowed.
  2. Use white gel polish on the free edge for French.
  3. A white and transparent pink, clear or cover gel polish for the nailbed and a transparent top coat gel polish for the finish is allowed.
  4. A classic Ferrari red gel polish is recommended.
  5. A thin nail art brush to create a smile line is allowed.

NOT ALLOWED

  1. No manicure procedure is allowed during this competition.
  2. Sculpting gel or hybrid/polygel is not allowed.
  3. No touching or pre-blending allowed before the comp begins.
  4. No glitter, shimmer or frost permitted or any color with pearl, glitter, or shimmer.
  5. All colors must be free of pearl and metallic effect.
  6. No extension of the nail plate/natural nail is allowed. The nail plate/natural nail must be free of product and natural.
  7. Products without any label are not allowed.

 

LED Hard Gel Tip & Overlay – 75-minutes

TASK 

  1. Tip & Overlay on the model’s LEFT hand with LED hard gel.
  2. On the underside of the nail – the judges DO NOT need to see white under the 2 red nails, this means 3 nails need to be created in a traditional French style pink & white.
  3. Cover pink or camouflage for the nailbed extension can be used.
  4. NOTE - It is not necessary to create lunula/moons on the nail – there are no extra points for lunulas.

SCORE SHEET CONTENT

  1. SMILE LINE: Consistent shape on all nails, evenly applied so tips match, no shadows, clean line and evenly aligned.
  2. APPLICATION OF WHITE: Even application, no shadows, or bubbles, consistent across all three nails.
  3. C-CURVE / CONVEX & CONACAVE: C-Curve should follow the shape of the nail down the entire length of the nail in convex and concave. It must measure even on each side. It must be symmetrical and even on all fingers. C-Curve should be 40 - 50% on all 5 nails. EXAMPLE: If the competitor chooses 45% on the first nail, all 5 nails need to have a 45% C-Curve. Convex & Concave lower side lines need to be as thick as the hairline or thinner but even on both sides.
  4. HAIRLINE / FREE EDGE THICKNESS: The nails must be consistently thin throughout the entire nail and be uniformly thin on each nail. And no thicker than a business card.
  5. APEX / ARCH: High point of apex or arch must be consistently placed on each nail with correct placement for the resulting nail. Not overly pronounced.
  6. CUTICLE AREA: No cuts or irritation around skin. Points will be deducted for any damage to the skin during the nail competition. Even product application with no ledge or missing product.
  7. NAIL SHAPE: The shape of the nails looks consistent and uniform looking down on from above the nail. Only square or squoval form is allowed.
  8. NAIL LENGTH: Proportion of pink to white is the same across all 3 nails and overall length of the nail matches in proportion to the fingers across all 5 nails. The nailbed from the proximal fold (top view) to the deepest point of your smile line (top view) should be as long as the end point of your smile line (sideview – lateral sidewall) to the end point of the nail/hairline (sideview).

EXAMPLE: 10 mm nailbed – top view = 10mm white extension sideview (end points of your smile line lateral) and 5mm top view deepest point of your smile line to hairline. Competitors can go longer or shorter if they want to as long as they stay consistent.

 

JUDGES LOOK for CONSISTENCY in the nail form.

  1. UPPER ARCH / FREE EDGE: From the nail’s profile, the free edge must complement the upper arch of the nail and be even on all nails. Therefore, uniform on each side from the above view.
  2. LOWER ARCH / LOWER SIDELINES: The lower side lines should be even, neat and extend straight out from the lateral fold on both sides. They must be uniform on each side the above and side view. No step or ridges on side walls.
  3. PRODUCT CONTROL PINK: Even application of product. No shadows, air bubbles and pits. Sharp division of color at smile line and a good blend to the nailbed towards the cuticle area.
  4. SURFACE SMOOTHNESS: No file lines or demarcations. Finished product is smooth. No bumps. No dips. No rough or dull spots.
  5. HIGH SHINE FINISH: (Gel sealer only allowed for Gel comps): Unpolished fingers should have a high gloss shine like a glass finish. If comp allows gel sealer, it must be shiny, smooth, and evenly covered.
  6. POLISH: Applied close and even at cuticle. No streaking in polish. Sides and tip of edge covered. No polish on skin or under the nail.

 

POLISH

  1. Competitors must polish 2 fingers on each hand (thumb and pinkie) of the model with a red cream polish/lacquer only – no base coat, ridge filler color gel, gel polish or top coat may be used.
  2. The polish may be of the competitors’ choice but without any metallic effect, glitter or pearl effect.
  3. Thumb and pinkie must have an LED Gel Top sealer in Gel T&O under the red polish.

ALLOWED

  1. Cream, lotion, oil and polish dry products may be used.
  2. Water and soap may be used in finishing.
  3. You are only permitted to use Natural or Clear tips in UV/LED  gel tip & overlay category.
  4. E-Files are allowed.
  5. Gel competitors must bring a UV or LED gel lamp.
  6. Adhesive is allowed for tip & overlay.
  7. Only hard gels allowed in the traditional gel comps.
  8. For a finish/Top Gel in a jar or a Top Gel in a bottle is allowed. Any other bottles/soak off gels are not allowed in the Gel competitions except for red polish/lacquer.
  9. Camouflage or cover pinks can be used on the nailbed. Overlay products and material must be in original packaging – with clear correct label.

 

NOT ALLOWED

  1. Excess lotion and oil will afford point deductions. If a competitor is seen cleaning hands and nails after the competition is closed with any product, such as canned air, it is immediate disqualification. Models may not put fingers in their mouth or rub them on their clothing.
  2. No tip sizing, touching, or pre-blending allowed before the comp begins.
  3. Competitors may not touch the nail tips prior to the start of the competition.
  4. Every competitor must arrive with an organised tip box with at least 10 tips of each size in each allocated size compartment of the box. A disorganised tip box will be removed from the desk by a floor judge.
  5. No hybrid/any kind of acrygel, dip system and no gel polish products allowed in the traditional Gel Tip & Overlay competition.
  6. No tools or files to aid the creation of smile lines are to be used. Smile lines are to be created using a brush or hand file only.
  7. No smile line cutters allowed.
  8. No paint-on French is allowed - must be created by sculpting using white gel system - not gel paint.
  9. No gel polish or dip systems to be used.
  10. For a finish/Top Gel in a jar or a Top Gel in a bottle is allowed. Any other bottles/soak off gels are not allowed in the Gel competitions except for red polish/lacquer.

 

Acrylic L&P Sculpture Traditional French 3 Pink & White nails with 2 red nail polish nails - 75-minutes

TASK 

  1. Sculpting on the model’s RIGHT hand with L&P acrylic.
  2. On the underside of the nail – the judges DO NOT need to see white under the 2 red nails, this means 3 nails need to be created in a French style pink & white.
  3.  Cover pinks & camouflage powders are allowed.
  4. It is not necessary to create lunula/moons on the nail – there are no extra points for lunulas.

BOTH HANDS ON MODEL

  1. Those doing both hands will be asked to stop after 75-minutes and have a 15-minute break before starting on the second hand

  3. For sculpture a roll of ONLY & EXACT 25 forms per comp. Floor judges will be closely inspecting every form.
  4. You are only permitted to use Natural or Clear tips in tip & overlay category.
  5. E-Files are allowed. NO UV/LED lamps on the table allowed for acrylic category.

 NOT ALLOWED

  1. All overlay products and material must be in original packaging – with clear correct label.
  2. Excess lotion and oil will afford point deductions. If a competitor is seen cleaning hands and nails after the competition is closed with any product, such as canned air, it is immediate disqualification. Models may not put fingers in their mouth or rub them on their clothing.
  3. No gel or gel polish products/sealers to be used on the L&P acrylic categories.
  4. ALL French L&P acrylic nails need to be buffed to a high shine.
  5. No adhesive for the acrylic sculpting category and must not be on the nail desk.
  6. No hybrid/acrygel and no gel polish products allowed in the traditional L&P competition.
  7. No tools or efiles to aid the creation of smile lines are to be used. Smile lines are to be created using a brush or hand file only.
  8. No smile line cutters allowed.
  9. No paint-on French is allowed.
  10. No hybrid/any kind of acrygel, dip system and no gel polish products allowed
  11. Any other bottles/soak off gels are not allowed in an acrylic competition except for red polish/lacquer.
  12. Finish/Top Gel or similar, in a jar or bottle is not allowed in the acrylic category, except for red polish/lacquer.
  13. Competitors need to buff to a high shine.

TIP

Read the score sheets. Check out the point distribution. Where you will gain the most points and where you gain the least. This will help your timing and focus. Knowledge of where you can gain points and where you can unnecessarily lose them is helpful.

 

 

 

French Twist – 3-Shape Challenge – 75-minutes

TASK

  1. One hand only – competitor can work on his/her own hand or model. Any hand is ok to style.
  2. You must sculpt 3 different forms & shapes 2 inches long from cuticle area to the hairline on a form as follows -
  3. Index: French inlay art design in form of a smile line and over the entire tip/extension of the nail, nailbed and extension can be sculpted in any color, no glitter.
  4. Middle: French inlay art design in form of a smile line and over the entire tip/extension of the nail, nailbed and extension can be sculpted in any color, no glitter.
  5. Ring: French inlay art design in form of a smile line and over the entire tip/extension of the nail, nailbed and extension can be sculpted in any color, no glitter.
  6. Competitors will be given 75-minutes to complete the 3 fingers and be positioned in one area together.
  7. All 3 nails can have a different inlay design (can inlay any design you choose) but need to be created in the same color/s.
  8. Everything must be created or sculpted as an inlay, no 3D/overlay art.
  9. The surface needs to be even and in a high shine.
  10. All sculpting products must be in original packaging – with clear correct label.
  11. A roll of ONLY & EXACT 15 forms must be at the table.
  12. The competitors must bring their own table lamps.
  13. Gel competitors must bring a UV or LED gel lamp.

  1. SMILE LINE: Fits the smile line to the nailbed. Evenly applied so tip match, no shadows, clean line and evenly aligned.
  2. INLAY SMILE LINE: Is there a smile line on all 3 nails? Is smile line visible in form of an inlay? Does the smile line match with the nailbed?
  3. C-CURVE: Should follow the shape of the nail down the entire length of the nail. It must measure even on each side. It must be symmetrical and even on all fingers.
  4. FREE EDGE THICKNESS: The nails must be consistently thin throughout the entire nail and be uniformly thin on each nail. And no thicker than a business card.
  5. APEX/ARCH: High point of apex or arch must be consistently placed on each nail with correct placement for the resulting nail. Not overly pronounced. From the nail’s profile, the free edge must complement the upper arch of the nail and be even on both sides. Therefore, uniform on each side.
  6. CUTICLE AREA: No cuts or irritation around skin. Points will be deducted for any damage to the skin during the nail competition. Even product application with no ledge or missing product.
  7. NAIL SHAPE: Each shape of the nails looks consistent and uniform looking down on from above the nail. Each shape showcased across the hand are strong, uniform, and consistent with the styling expected from the shape chosen on each finger. Is this skilled & thorough work? Are 3 different forms& shapes created?
  8. NAIL LENGTH: Proportion of nailbed and extension is the same across all 5 nails and overall length of the nail matches in proportion to the fingers across all 3 nails. Are 2inches nails sculpted from the cuticle to the hairline?
  9. COLOR PALETTE: Allowed are any colors in any sculpting systems. Has a color palette been used? Are the different colors defined?
  10. MOON: Does the thumb have a moon? Does the moon fit to the nailbed and smile line?
  11. OVERALL LOOK STRUCTURE: Has this set got a structural WOW factor – assess the complexity of the nail structures, shape, form & architecture?
  12. OVERALL LOOK ART: Has this set got an artistic WOW factor – assess the complexity of the art forms of inlays?
  13. ORIGINALITY: Depth & dimension of the inlay designs. Is it original? Evaluate the complexity of the inlay designs.
  14. FINISH WORK & HIGH SHINE: There should not be any scratches. Is the cuticle clean & the entire nails clear of any dust or debits? Unpolished fingers should have a high gloss shine like a glass finish. If comp allows gel sealer, it must be shiny, smooth, and evenly covered.

COLOR PALETTE

  1. Allowed are any colors in any sculpting systems (LED/UV Gel, Acrylic or Hybrid Gel). Mixing colors is allowed during the competition or at home and not before on the competition arena.

ALLOWED

  1. Cream, lotion, oil and dry products may be used.
  2. Water and soap may be used in finishing.
  3. E-Files are allowed
  4. Only UV/LED hard gels, Acrylic/L&P or Hybrid Gels are allowed.
  5. Only for LED hard Gel and Hybrid Gel sculpted nails a Top Gel and Soak off/Gel polish Top Gel is allowed for the finish.
  6. Acrylic needs to be buffed to a high shine.
  7. 3D smile lines with color are allowed.
  8. Can do on your own hand or a model. Any hand can be styled.

NOT ALLOWED

  1. No nail art on top is allowed.
  2. Polish/lacquer is not allowed.
  3. No premixing of any colors before the event.
  4. Excess lotion and oil will afford point deductions. If a competitor is seen cleaning hands and nails after the competition is closed with any product, such as canned air, it is immediate disqualification. Models may not put fingers in their mouth or rub them on their clothing.
  5. Tips are NOT allowed.
  6. Pre-tailored forms are NOT allowed. Floor judges will be closely inspecting every form.
  7. No adhesive for the sculpt categories and must not be on the nail desk.
  8. No tools to aid the creation of smile lines are to be used. Smile lines are to be created using a brush and/or hand file.
  9. No smile line cutters allowed.
  10. Foils, glitters, rhinestones, Stamping are NOT allowed.
  11. No decals, pre-designed or printed appliqués to be used.
  12. No touching, or pre-blending allowed before the comp begins.

 

Joy of Nails – 3 nails – 75-minutes

TASK

  1. One hand only – competitor can work on his/her own hand or model. Any hand is ok to style.
  2. Liquid & powder, Sculpting Gel, tip & overlay, sculpting on natural nails are all acceptable – anything is allowed!
  3. Looking for desirable & gorgeous shapes, design, beauty, style & skill.
  4. Inviting professionals to show their most favored and best nail designs, shapes, and styles.
  5. No restrictions on shape and length.
  6. These nails can be commercial salon nails; they can be extreme; they can be fantasy; they must be original and inspirational.
  7. Each nail must be different in length, shape, and design. Points will be deducted if 3 different nails are not shown.
  8. They will be judged on the skill of a true nail professional. The judges will be looking for the ‘wow’ factor. The more skills and creativity used, the better. It’s a showcase for what YOU can bring to the nail industry to innovate and inspire.
  9. Please design 3 nails (no pinkie or thumb included).
  10. This competition is designed to showcase a range of your creative and technical skills. This is an aspirational competition where you show other nail professionals what you are capable of.

SCORE SHEET CONTENT

  1. Skills to be demonstrated on each individual nail – each nail to be in a different length, shape & design. Fore finger, middle finger, ring finger.
  2. Structure, Shape & Form – from above: Depending on chosen nail shape …. looking from above down onto the nail – is the shape perfectly in line with the finger? Are the sides even & balanced? Fore finger, middle finger, ring finger.
  3. Shape & Form – side view: From the side view is the upper arch & lower arch/line perfect? Is the apex in the appropriate place for the chosen nail shape? Fore finger, middle finger, ring finger.
  4. Technique & Skill: Looking at each nail, would nail professionals want to learn the techniques showcased? Fore finger, middle finger, ring finger.

ALLOWED

  1. Anything can be applied to the nails.
  2. All nail work is to be done on the comp floor.
  3. Using tips is allowed.

 NOT ALLOWED

  1. No more than 20% crystal embellishment on each nail. We want to to see structure & shape of the nail.
  2. No pre-tailoring or touching of tips or forms etc.
  3. All nail work is to be done on the comp floor - no pre-made work allowed.

 

Salon Nails – 60-minutes

TASK

  1. Show your skills as a salon nail professional: everyday nails for everyday clients.
  2. Choose between one of these artificial systems: L&P Acrylic, Sculpting Gel, fibreglass, hybrids, then shape, style and lengthen nails accordingly.
  3. 60-minutes to complete one hand of salon-style nail enhancements
  4. The nail enhancements must be finished in a French style pink & white – gel top coats and sealants are allowed.
  5. Nailbed extension with cover powder or gels can be used if appropriate for the ‘client’.
  6. Create nails in either pink & white French or baby bomber ombré. Choose your style and use across all 5 nails for consistency & aesthetics.
  7. The white free edge French must be sculpted- no painting-on of French allowed.

ONE HAND with RING FINGER Design

  1. Complete 5 nails of salon-style nail enhancements on one hand- using any suitable artificial nail system.
  2. RING FINGER is to be embellished to create a feature nail. This nail must complement the overall look, not detract, but enhance the complete look and can be embellished in any way you choose.

SCORE SHEET CONTENT

  1. LENGTH: Is the nailbed extended? The free edge length should not be longer than 50% of the nailbed. EXAMPLE: nailbed = 10 mm means free edge white extension = max. 5 mm Are the nails even?
  2. SHAPE: Does the shape enhance the nail & finger? Are all 10 nail shapes even?
  3. COLOR: Does the color of the nail enhance the skin tone & nail style?
  4. APEX: Is the apex appropriate to the length of the nail, strength, and longevity and even on all nails?
  5. C-CURVE: Is the overlay even throughout and has a fine hairline/free edge? No thicker than a credit card?
  6. FINISH: Is the finish of the nail smooth, even, glossy and with no imperfections in or on the surface of the overlay? (Matt Top Gel, Glitter Top Gel or similar is not allowed.)
  7. SMILE LINE: Are the smiles sharp, crisp, and even across all nails?
  8. OVERALL: Score on the improvement of the nails.
  9. FEATURE NAIL: Does the design on the ring finger complement the nails, enhance the overall look & complete the overall design with finesse?

POLISH

  1. Competitors are not going to polish, no nail polish/lacquer colour is allowed.


ALLOWED

  1. Foils, glitters, rhinestones, powders, hand painting are allowed only on the ring finger.
  2. Cleansing and moisturising products (oils, creams, lotions, etc.) are allowed.
  3. Competitors are required to use professional products with an original label.
  4. A roll of ONLY & EXACT 25 forms is allowed. Floor judges will be closely inspecting every form.
  5. The form and shape can be almond, oval, square or squoval.
  6. Top coats/sealer is allowed on every system.
  7. L&P acrylic system, UV/LED hard gel system, acrygel system. Choose your nail system - do not mix systems at the desk for this nail styling.

NOT ALLOWED

  1. NO white tips. Use clear or natural tips only.
  2. NO glitter, colored powder, additives etc. to be used – judges are looking for the most natural set of French nails that suit the hand shape and skin tone. (NOTE: This rule does not apply to the ring finger.)
  3. No matte top coat
  4. No gel polish or dip systems to be used.
  5. No embellishment or encapsulation – judges want to see natural looking enhancements in any shape. The competitor is to choose the most relevant shape to suit the fingers and nail condition. (NOTE: This rule does not apply to the special RING finger.)
  6. No decals, pre-designed or printed appliqués to be used.
  7. No pre-designed flowers are allowed.
  8. No Stamping of art allowed.
  9. No paint-on French allowed - French must be sculpted on.
  10. No tip sizing, touching, or pre-blending allowed before the comp begins.
  11. No tools to aid the creation of smile lines are to be used. Smile lines are to be created using a brush only.
  12. NO smile line cutters allowed.
  13. Excessive use of oil is not permitted. Judges will deduct points for excess oil.
  14. Sculpting or tip & overlay techniques to be used only.
  15. NO molds or molds labelled as nail forms – just nail tips & paper sculpting forms allowed.

  

Stiletto Nails – 120-minutes

TASK

  1. Nails to be sculpted on forms only on the model or your own hand. You can style any hand.
  2. Nails can be made using L&P Acrylic or Sculpting Gel systems - this includes acrygel systems.
  3. Pinkie and thumb nails must be pink & white with crisp smile line.

SCORE SHEET CONTENT

  1. LENGTH: The length of the nail is in proportion to the finger across all 5 nails.
  2. NAIL SHAPE: The shape of the nails looks consistent & uniform & the free edge is coming straight from the finger.
  3. FREE EDGE THICKNESS: The nails must be consistently thin throughout.
  4. SMILE LINE: On the pinkie & thumb nails are the smile lines consistent in shape, clean, crisp & even.
  5. PRODUCT CONTROL: Even application of product, no shadows, air bubbles or pits.
  6. SURFACE SMOOTHNESS: No file line or demarcations; the finished product is smooth – no bumps, dips, rough or dull spots.
  7. CUTICLE AREA: No cuts or irritation around skin. Even product application with no ledge or missing product.
  8. SIDE WALLS: The side walls should be even, neat and extend straight out from the lateral fold. Must be uniform on each side. No step or ridges on side walls.
  9. APEX/UPPER ARCH: High point of apex or arch must be consistently placed on each nail with correct placement for the resulting nail. Not overly pronounced.
  10. ORIGINALTY: Depth & dimension of the design. Is it novel? Evaluate the complexity of this design.
  11. CREATIVITY: Are you seeing creative use of art media & techniques?
  12. FINISH WORK: There should not be any scratches in the paint or product application. Is the cuticle clean & the entire nail capped in sealer with a high gloss look?

LENGTH & STRUCTURE

  1. The application and length can be designed to the competitor’s desire and ability.

ALLOWED

  1. E-Files are allowed.
  2. Water and soap may be used for finishing.
  3. Oil, lanolin, cream, lotion and polish dry products may be used.
  4. Paint, striper foils, rhinestones and bullion are allowed.
  5. Color foils can be used for design.
  6. Products used can have color or glitter added if desired.

    NOT ALLOWED
  7. Hybrid/Polygel or dip system or mixing two systems is not allowed.
  8. Any debris or dust under the nails will lose points.
  9. No tips permitted.
  10. Gel sealers/ top coat are allowed in a bottle or jar.
  11. No decals allowed. This means no pre-designed or printed appliqués or decals to be used.
  12. No stamping of art allowed.

 

Fantasy Complete Look – 60-minutes

TASK

  1. The fantasy work must be adhered to natural nails only. NO polish color, no French or natural enhancements, no gel polish – just natural nails only on the competition floor. The natural nails can be pre-manicured. 10-points deducted if the nails have polish or base coat on them.
  2. Only the model and competitor are allowed on the competition floor. The costuming, make-up and hair may be assembled before the competition and can be a team effort. The nails must be added to the complete look during the 60-minutes competition by the competitor with no additional help.
  3. All pieces or embellishments to go on the nails may be completely created prior to the competition, then assembled and placed/adhered to the nails during the competition. You must create 10 separate tips to adhere to the 10 nails during the competition. It must be 10 nails for 10 fingers.
  4. 3D, pre-cast embellishments, feathers, decals, gems, accessories, ornaments or any form of fantasy are allowed.
  5. Models must wear their costume prior to the start of the competition, with final touches completed during the competition.
  6. The costume is a large part of this competition (1-20 points), as this competition stresses creativity, difficulty and how well the theme of the entire design and costume work together. Dress the model in the theme from head to toes.
  7. Complete your work with no more than 50 words on a small card in English & Spanish (to be placed at the model’s feet during judging). Outline your theme and nail art media used. Explain what techniques, products and materials have been used for the creation.
  8. No step-by-step photographs accepted. Photos of the work or artist involved will lead to point deductions or disqualification.
  9. Points can be lost if elements of design are bought ready-made and embellished.
  10. Keep all elements neat & well finished with no visible signs of glue, dust or debris.
  11. Difficulty is evaluated by the level of detail & intricacies noted within each element. Less is sometimes more and big does not always mean better.

  • A written synopsis of no more than 50 words in English must be provided with your photograph detailing how the look was achieved. This is for the judges to mark complexity and understand the journey to completed look. Please note points will be deducted for failing to include the text.

  • This competition is a ‘show & tell’ format. Nails to be designed on varying sized nail tips and placed together and photographed. THEME – Electro Pop

  • Design a set of 5 nail tips to fit the brief – for an Electro Pop album.
  • Imagine this is a commercial brief, to create a set of 5 tips to be worn by a model for a photo shoot for an album cover in the electro pop music genre.
  • 3D art is acceptable but must be wearable art – no higher off the nail than 0.5cm (5mm); flat art, simple, stylish small embellishments with rhinestones, bullion, glitter, crystals. Maximum height 0.5cm (5mm) from the nail surface.
  • The 5 tips must be displayed simply by placing on a hand and photographing.
  • Just 5 tips – that fit the theme.
  • Please do not choose themes in copyright- NO Disney, Pixar – no movies, no characters etc.
  • Send a close up photograph of the 5 tips on the hand and 50 words in a text document in English to explain how you’ve fulfilled the brief. Then send a photo of 5 tips together on a white background. This means 2 photographs with text. (Minimum size requirements for photo is 2MB / maximum is 10MB.

  • Style these long nails with the idea of any international sporting event to guide your design.

  • Competitors must design 3 different nail tips that follow & interpret the three themes.
  • The 3 tips must be displayed side by side on a sheet of white paper, so they are clearly visible, then photographed. Then take 3 separate photos close up on the white background, so they are clearly viewed .

(One text document – simply describing the 3 nail designs in no more than 100 words in total in English. Make sure the judge can clearly see each block of text for each nail design.)

  • No 3D art is acceptable. Flat art or embellishments with rhinestones etc only.
  • Media paints; gel polish; glitters; foils; charms; rhinestones; flat stones; decals; embellishments; one stroke: anything goes – just NO 3D
  • The finished nail designs should include suitable shape and length for a salon service.

RUNWAY NAILS 

THEME  - Industrial Revolution

Decorate 3 press-on full-cover nail tips to the design brief of the industrial revolution era

  • Competitors must design 3 different nail designs they feel will enhance, accessorise & interpret this brief.
  • The 3 tips must be displayed side by side on a sheet of white paper, so they are clearly visible, then photographed. Then take 3 separate photos close up on the white background, so they are clearly viewed .

Add a 5th photo showing a mood board that offers insight into the thoughts, ideas & journey behind the styles. (Do not make this so detailed that it is impossible to navigate on a photo.)

(One text document – simply describing the 3 nail designs in no more than 100 words in total in English. Make sure the judge can clearly see each block of text for each nail design.)

  • Competitors may use any suitable materials that do not necessarily have to be nail products or can be a mixture of nail products and other materials. There are no restrictions on the creation of these 3 nails.
  • The finished nail designs should include suitable shape and length for a catwalk show.
  • NB – Place three tips on white paper and photograph. Then photograph individually. Then photograph the mood board. This equals 5 photos (size of photos minimum 2MB – maximum 10MB).
