Career biography: My love for nails started in high school with my first Jo nail kit. After a few years in college, I joined the United States Air Force where my love for nails continued. Upon leaving the military, I decided to pursue my love for nails & started nail school at Shelton State Community College. In 1994 I passed my State Board & immediately started my nail career at Mary's Hair Studio. I would continue to nurture my skills & grow my clientele for six years. In 2000 I opened Pynkies Spa & Nail Boutique. Pynkies flourished for 18 years. Before the arrival of Covid the doors of Pynkies closed in 2018. I reopened in late 2020. In 2022 I finally mustered up the courage to enter my first competition. Needless to say, I was terrified. To my surprise, I won my very first medal as a novice competitor for Runway Nails. At that point, I was totally hooked & I have been competing ever since. All I can say is I LOVE NAILS!
Personal biography: I consider myself a very simple person. I enjoy my morning walks. I also like cooking, gardening, cantoring for my church, spending time with family, networking with other nail techs & teaching my clients about nailcare.
Why you believe in nail competitions?: I believe in competitions for several reasons. Firstly, nail competitions are a huge confidence booster. Secondly, competition enhances your skills & lastly gives you the perfect opportunity to network & learn from some of the best in the industry.
Advice to other competitors: My advice to others is to believe in yourself first & foremost. Always be willing to accept constructive criticism & never be afraid to ask questions. You can't learn if you don't ask.
